MEXICAN TEXTILES VILLAGES

Year: 2018

Teotitlán del Valle OAX, San Martin Tilcajete OAX, Chamula, CHIAPAS, Nayarit.

Vida Nueva Women’s Cooperative was the first place i visited in Oaxaca. They are a group that support struggling women in the area by teaching and up keeping traditional textiles, then helping these women to sell the goods they make across the world.
Here i was shown and taught how to card and spin, then use natural dyes specific to the area we were in (including cochonilha), finally weave these beautiful yarns on backstrap and traditional looms into rugs and scarfs and yards of fabric.

The other projects we visited included a Alebrijes village in San Martin Tilcajete, an Embroidery village in Chamula, Chiapas, and the Huichol wool painting villages in Nayarit.

GRADUATE COLLECTION - YAMA

Year of production: 2015

Univerity of Brighton

Fashion Design with Professional Practise BAhons

Practical Clothing for Practical Women - Elegance in the Elements.

This collection explores an alternative to un-flattering outdoor-wear by combining the tactile, practical and ergonomic detailing in menswear with elegant lines and traditional textile techniques of Japanese workwear.

It reignites the relationship between the wearer and clothing by preventing them from becoming a burden and allowing them to aid the tasks in hand including dealing with extreme or harsh conditions.

The garments investigate components from many different aspects of a practical lifestyle including work wear, the outdoors and a raw natural aesthetic; creating apparel for practical, strong and elegant women.
